About Us

Who We Are

Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers (TROSA), founded in 1994, is a comprehensive, long-term, residential substance abuse treatment program located in Durham, North Carolina.  TROSA is the largest therapeutic community in the state: every day over 350 people live, work, and recover from substance abuse at TROSA.

About Our Program & People

TROSA's program is offered at no cost to the individual.  This ensures that substance abusers from all socio-economic backgrounds can have access to treatment.  TROSA’s comprehensive treatment components include:

  • Recovery services (including specialized counseling)
  • Vocational Training
  • Educational opportunities
  • Leadership Training
  • Primary medical care
  • Food, housing, clothing, and transportation

TROSA serves a diverse population of men and women.  Residents range in age from 18 to 60 and most have struggled with addiction for over ten years.  Upon graduation, TROSA graduates have professional skills, good work ethic, and a sense of responsibility that helps them transition into society and maintain their recovery.

TROSA Works!

100% of TROSA graduates find full-time employment upon graduation.  Through our extensive Aftercare program, graduates are provided with subsidized housing, affordable transportation, and support groups to ensure a successful recovery.

National relapse rates are between 40%-60% during the first year after completing a drug rehabilitation program.  However, at TROSA, only 8% of graduates relapse within the first year.  Since 1994, over 1,000 people have graduated from TROSA to a new sober life.
